LightPath Technologies is pleased to announce the capability to manufacture high performance Fusion collimators for space and other demanding environments.

These space-qualified collimators are built to withstand harsh environments, including high dosages of radiation, extreme temperatures and low outgassing in vacuum conditions. These fiber collimators also incorporate LightPath’s proprietary Fusion technology, in which the fiber is fused directly to a silica pellet, allowing light to expand before it meets the air interface. This expansion greatly reduces the power density at that interface and makes the collimator more reliable, especially against damage due to contamination in the optical path.

LightPath’s products have a long history of space use. Previously manufactured optical components been used on the space shuttle, the International Space Station, and various defense and commercial satellites. LightPath is also capable of handling programs that are subject to ITAR requirements.
