Manufacturer: BaySpec
FREMONT, Calif., Sept. 9, 2009 – BaySpec Inc.'s 1064-nm SafeInspec-2 handheld Raman analyzer delivers high sensitivity and repeatability in an affordable battery-operated package. The third-generation device’s high reliability (MIL STD 810F shock and vibration) is achieved through a rugged mechanical design that is based on volume phase gratings and that contains no moving parts.

bayspec-1064handheld.jpg Periodic calibration is not required. A Windows-based Tablet PC interface is included for qualitative and quantitative measurements. The analyzer can identify commonplace and rare chemicals through glass, plastic, transparent and translucent materials. It is ergonomically optimized and lightweight.

It enables single-handed or wireless hands-free analysis to maximize field performance and can accurately identify chemicals in mixtures at concentrations as low as 30%, dependent upon a mixture's specific chemicals and substances. The software interface delivers onboard results in <2 to 10 s.

Rapid automated calibration ensures operational accuracy. The likelihood of human error is reduced by eliminating sample preparation and test interpretation. Nondestructive testing preserves samples for additional tests and/or as evidence.

The analyzer measures 140 × 218 × 410 mm and weighs <7.3 kg. It is sealed to withstand contamination, and it operates from -25 to 45 °C. Warm-up time is <1 min.

Applications include food and beverages, powders, weapons of mass destruction, explosives, narcotics and drugs, pesticides, common and toxic chemicals, and in-line process monitoring.
