WETZLAR, Germany, Aug. 31, 2009 – A single platform to study the dynamics of cellular processes has been launched by Leica Microsystems GmbH. The TCS SMD series is a single-molecule detection system that offers an integrated platform for the most common single-molecule techniques, such as fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy and fluorescence correlation spectroscopy.
It enables performance of the newer and more precise verification methods for molecule concentrations and interactions: fluorescence cross-correlation spectroscopy and fluorescence lifetime correlation spectroscopy.

The system integrates hardware and software from PicoQuant with the high-end Leica TCS SP5 II confocal microscope. Researchers now can control a complete single-molecule detection experiment via one interface, the proprietary LAS AF software. The coordination of different hardware and software components for one single-molecule detection experiment is now a thing of the past.
Complex single-molecule detection technologies are no longer complicated because of the user-friendly design of the system. Quick and easy operation is ensured by dedicated application wizards that guide the user step-by-step through experiments and maximize the reproducibility of data. With the universal single-molecule detection raw data format, the same data file can be analyzed in various ways, leading to quantification with maximum content.
