High Energy Laser Weapon Systems Online Short Course 2013
This short course provides an overview of high energy laser (HEL) weapon systems. It is offered by the Center for Directed Energy (CDE) at the Air Force Institute of Technology. Distance learning and classroom modes are both available and cover the same material. The classroom mode is being offered in Albuquerque, NM and College Park, MD. If you prefer to learn in the classroom mode, let us know which location is preferred by emailing us at office@deps.org

A thorough presentation of HEL weapons systems will be provided. There will be a complete overview of laser weapon systems including laser devices (chemical, solid state, and free electron), laser subsystems (power, thermal management, fluid supply), beam control (beam directors, tracking and control, adaptive optics), atmospheric propagation, targets and lethality, engagement scenarios, and weapon system performance.

LASER World of PHOTONICS 2013
Laser World of Photonics, collocated with World of Photonics Congress, is the world’s largest trade fair for lasers and laser systems in industrial manufacturing. The 21st event features three photonics forums: Lasers in Manufacturing, Biophotonics and Medical Engineering and Optical Technologies. The Lasers in Manufacturing (LiM) scientific conference focuses on the latest developments as well as future trends in the field of laser material processing. Dealing with process engineering, system technology and process optimization, LiM 2013 addresses anyone interested in the potential of lasers in theory and application.

The Optical Technologies applications panel will address topics such as optronical systems in security applications, solid-state lighting, advanced solid-state lasers, high-power diode lasers and VCSELs, as well as beam shaping and delivery.

The Biophotonics and Medical Engineering panel will address innovations and technologies key to the future of the biophotonics industry. These include laser applications and optical diagnostics in ophthalmology, laser developments for life sciences and bioinstrumentation, as well as tap into the unmet needs in biophotonics technology and visions for future diagnostics such as endoscopy.

For the first time, the trade association Spectaris, the German Engineering Federation, the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association and the Federal Ministry of Science and Research are publishing a special report on photonics in 2013. The report will be presented at an economic-policy meeting on the industry, shedding light on the latest industry trends in light of recent economic developments.

The 2013 event will also include an exhibit of more than 200 companies, a talent initiative, the 11th international laser marketplace seminar focused on markets and new technologies in laser materials processing, and a special show called Photons in Production, which addresses the building blocks for the future.
