Applications are now being accepted for the 2012 Edmund Optics Higher Education Grant Program, the company announced. Worldwide, Edmund Optics will be awarding grants totaling $80,000 in products.

The program supports students in undergraduate and graduate optics programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics at nonprofit colleges and universities.

Applications will be reviewed, and finalists will be selected by the company’s grant team and asked to provide more detailed information about their programs. Recipients will be selected based on technical merit and innovative use of optics in a research setting or lab. Finalists will be notified by July 25, and winners will be notified on Sept. 14. Complete terms and conditions can be viewed online.

The funding was increased by 20 percent over last year due to the program’s overwhelming success, said Kirsten Bjork-Jones, director of global marketing communications.

Students involved in projects using optics, optomechanics or imaging components are encouraged to apply at: www.edmundoptics.com/grant
