RICHMOND, British Columbia, July 27, 2012 — Point Grey Research Inc. has added a new model to its Flea3 line of Gigabit Ethernet Vision digital cameras. It delivers VGA resolution at 120 fps in an ultracompact package.
The FL3-GE-03S1 features Sony’s ICX618CCD sensor with EXview global shutter architecture to maximize quantum efficiency and near-IR response. The camera operates at 120 fps in full 648 × 488-pixel resolution and faster in smaller regions of interest. It measures 29 × 29 ×30 mm and, with an aluminum casting enclosure, weighs 38 g without optics. This combination of speed, sensitivity and size makes the camera suitable for machine vision applications and for analog camera replacement.

Features include an eight-pin opto-isolated general-purpose input/output for industrial triggering and strobe output; 1-MB nonvolatile flash memory for user data storage; and an on-camera frame buffer for retransmitting images. The Flea3 complies with version 1.2 of the GigE Vision specification, which allows it to work seamlessly with software from Cognex, Mathworks, Matrox, MVTec and National Instruments, as well as with the proprietary FlyCapture software development kit.
Applications such as factory automation, electronics manufacturing, and food and packaging inspection benefit from the camera’s cable length and high frame rates.
The Flea3 FL3-GE-03S1C (color) and FL3-GE-03S1M (monochrome) models are available to order now.
