TRENTON, N.J., Dec. 22, 2011 — Princeton Instruments has introduced the PIoNIR:640, a scientific-grade camera that uses a deep-cooled InGaAs focal plane array. It is designed for use in low-light near-infrared or short-wavelength infrared imaging and spectroscopy applications that require high sensitivity from 0.9 to 1.7 µm. Applications range from nanotube fluorescence imaging to photovoltaic inspection.
The camera’s peak quantum efficiency is >80%, and it is thermoelectrically cooled down to −90 °C. Its low-noise readout electronics deliver high sensitivity. It enables research and industrial applications in life and physical science domains such as semiconductor failure inspection, singlet oxygen imaging, photoluminescence imaging of photovoltaic materials, near-infrared fluorescence and absorbance, and deep-tissue imaging.
The thermoelectric cooling minimizes unwanted thermal noise to achieve a good signal-to-noise ratio. The camera offers built-in air or liquid cooling, or a combination of the two, for use in thermal- and vibration-sensitive environments.
The Gigabit Ethernet data interface enables remote operation from up to 50 m away and delivers a maximum rate of 110 fps at full resolution.
The camera is available with proprietary LightField data acquisition software, which affords complete control over all hardware features via an intuitive user interface. LightField provides automatic defect correction, exposure control up to minutes, and functions for easy capture and export of imaging and spectral data.
The PIoNIR:640 can be integrated into OEM systems using the PICAM SDK, the company’s free software development kit.
