IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 7, 2011 — Newport Corp. has announced the vacuum-compatible LTA series actuators and the URS50B rotation stage for research and industrial applications. They are compatible with 10 × e-6 hPa (7 × 10 e-6 torr) vacuum and are designed for integration in critical sample positioning or beam management processes in vacuum environments.

The newly designed vacuum stage features a motor-mounted encoder that is useful in detecting the stall of a stepper motor because the stage is not accessible when installed inside a vacuum chamber. The encoder offers good position repeatability, a critical factor in many research and commercial applications in vacuum environments.
With nonrotating tips, the LTAHSPPV6 and LTAHLPPV6 actuators are extensions of the LTA actuators and are rated at 10,000 h mean time between failures. Both actuators provide submicron minimum incremental motion and unidirectional repeatability.
The compact URS50BPPV6 rotation stage provides 360° of continuous motion at 4°/s and a minimum incremental motion of 0.0015°. It can accommodate 5-kg loads. The four mounting hole locations enable top mounting and enhance the stage’s cantilevered load capacity. Mean time between failures is 20,000 h.
The new vacuum-compatible products can be supplied with the company’s motion controllers, from the single-axis SMC100PP to the eight-axis XPS universal controller.
