Highly doped, photodarkening-resistant ytterbium fibers are available from nLight Corp. with up to 60% higher absorption at 920 nm and pump conversion efficiencies typically greater than 75%. The fibers are available in core/clad geometries ranging from 7/125 to 30/250 μm, in nonpolarization and polarization-maintaining versions. The large-mode-area, low-numerical-aperture fibers exhibit a fivefold decrease in loss under accelerated stress testing conditions.
