A generation of 1400- to 2000-nm semiconductor laser diodes based on indium phosphide (InP) has been introduced by
nLight Corp. to provide higher power and better efficiency. At 1.9 μm, the Pearl fiber-coupled module offers up to 20 W of output power from a single 400-μm fiber with a 0.22 numerical aperture and >10% wall plug efficiency. At 1.4 and 1.5 μm, it provides up to 40 W. Its single-emitter chips produce from 1.5 to 3.5 W of rated power on expansion-matched substrates. It is suitable for surgical and aesthetic medical applications.
