Rolyn Optics Co. says that the extreme thinness of its pellicle beamsplitters produces minimal absorption, distortion, ghosting, chromatic aberration and astigmatism. The pellicle, a 2-µm-thick membrane made from optical-grade nitrocellulose, is bonded to the face of a precision-lapped hard anodized aluminum frame that is polished to achieve a flatness proportionate to the dimensions of the ring. Stocked uncoated and available in 24 configurations, the pellicles have a transmission/reflection ratio of ~90/10% throughout the visible and near-IR regions. Coating can produce other ratios.
