LASER MIRRORS Precision Photonics Corp. has announced a line of ultrahigh-damage-threshold mirrors for use with high-power YAG lasers. Based on proprietary ion-beam-sputtered coating technology, they can withstand incident energies of higher than 40 J/cm2 at 1064 nm with a pulse length of 20 ns. They offer low loss and reflectivities of >99.8% at a 0 or 45° angle of incidence. Custom coatings with up to 4-in. diameters are available. The coating process results in densely packed nonporous structures that the company says offer lower scatter and absorption losses, fewer pinhole defects, better adhesion, and increased insensitivity to moisture and other environmental factors than conventional mirrors.
