INTEGRATING CAPSULE To enable the total flux measurement of side-emitting fiber optic sources such as those employed in photodynamic therapy, Gigahertz-Optik Inc. has stretched a 30-mm-diameter integrating sphere into a 60-mm-long capsule. The UPK-30S60-L integrating capsule detector features a circular collar baffle and a coating of high-grade optical diffuse material to produce integrating effects that the company says are similar to those from spheres of larger diameters. Gigahertz-Optik's accredited calibration laboratory calibrates the spectral sensitivity of the system in watts per nanometer. The capsule is compatible with the company's line of photometric and radiometric detectors and optometers, and custom and OEM versions are available.
