The RAR series discrete Raman amplifiers introduced by
IPG Photonics Corp. provide high-gain and low-noise amplification across the standard optical fiber low-loss region from 1260 to 1700 nm. The multiple-wavelength pumped devices offer 50 to 100 nm of optical bandwidth for DWDM amplification. Single-wavelength pumping options for narrower bandwidths are available. The RAR amplifiers use telecom-grade Yb- or Nd-doped fiber lasers as the pump source for the Raman gain. The instruments can be used in next-generation long-haul and product development applications, and the company says that they offer advantages over erbium-doped fiber amplifiers and direct diode-pumped Raman amplifiers.
